I have several key rituals I practice and indulge in to activate my pleasure principle. For example, I love burning incense and scented candles in the morning. I love listening to classics such as Etta James and Sam Cooke when I’m writing. However, bath time is by far one of my most treasured self-care rituals. I believe it is important to take time for pleasure, for pleasure is one of the gateways to creativity and joy. When I take time to care for myself, I am a better wife, daughter, sister and friend.
I am well-versed and well-rehearsed at the art of bath-taking. I have experimented with almost everything from the lowest to the highest ends of the spectrum. Below are the products I reach for the most, as well as continue to purchase time and again. All are cruelty-free, paraben-free and worth purchasing.
I’m a Glutton For LUSH Products…
Simply walking past the LUSH store in the mall is a splendid sensory overloading experience. Their products are cruelty-free, paraben free, and each stand alone in terms of quality. Everything smells divine and almost other-worldly. A ten minute stroll through the store, which involves shoving bath bombs in my face of course, is a fun time even on the days I don’t purchase anything. Bathing with them is even more of a treat, however. Some of the bath bombs explode in the tub and put on a show for you. Some make me feel as though I’m swimming in Skittles. Those are my favorite.
My husband recently gifted me with a plethora of LUSH products for my birthday, therefore I have been in a bit of a heavenly LUSH coma for the past week. My entire house smells like a lovely blend of a botanical garden and all of my favorite candies swirled into one sensory oasis. I look forward to bath time more so than ever before. Even my dachshund demands to participate in my nightly bath time indulgences, cementing herself on the bathroom rug as if to say, ” Sorry about the lack of privacy, but it smells too good in here.”
Below are a few of my favorite LUSH products of all time.
ButterBall Bath Bomb
Bathing with this is like being wrapped in your grandma’s coziest of blankets. It has a light, comforting scent of vanilla and cream, and offers one of the most understated experiences. There is no kaleidoscope of colors, no fragrance so intense that your nose hairs stand at attention and salute, nor any Instagram-worthy bath explosion. However, it is by far one of the most moisturizing and comforting bath bombs I’ve tried. As it melts in the water, small bits of shea butter and cocoa oil rise to the surface and spread throughout. It is so nurturing, I am able to shave my body without the use of any additional product or soap.
Phoenix Rising Bath Bomb
If the Butterball Bath Bomb is swan, this one is a peacock. It is one of the most festive and extravagant available for purchase. It is highly fragrant and will make your home smell as though you have been baking a cinnamon apple pie, making it most appropriate during the colder months. The visual effect of this one is quite magical, too. It turns the bath water a deep shade of purple, with the addition of subtle gold swirls of shimmer that rise to the surface. I always depart my bath tub feeling somewhat like a magical winter fairy.
Twilight Bath Bomb
This is my absolute favorite bath bomb of all time, particularly for night time indulgences. It smells like candied lavender, provides the perfect ratio of fizz, froth and fluff and, most importantly, turns your bath water a dreamy swirl of lavender, magenta and sky blue. I always feel as though I’m being cradled and rocked to sleep by a rainbow.
The Comforter Bubble Bar
This bubble bar is one of the prettiest and most fragrant of all of the available LUSH products. In fact, I enjoy admiring it so much, I often postpone my use of it. It’s worth it, though. Forget worrying with a messy liquid bubble bath ever again. The amount of bubbles this bar produces is shocking. It has a classic cotton candy scent, and turns the bath water a vivid shade of pink.
Note: I recommend cutting the bar into quarters prior to use. I’m able to get about four bath’s worth from a single bubble bar.
This products provides the best of two lovely worlds: It is part bath melt, part bath bomb. Therefore, it is luxurious, emollient and creamy, while also providing you with a dose of a frothy, fluffy and dreamy. Most importantly it smells exactly like a hybrid of marshmallow and birthday cake.
You’ve Been Mangoed Luxury Bath Melt
This product reminds me of a delicious tropical butter spread I couldn’t stop myself from layering on my toast while honeymooning in the Caribbean a few years ago. It is luxurious, emollient and has a texture similar to actual whipped butter. It smells so deliciously edible, I have to refrain myself from taking a bite out of it. Best of all, even if your skin is dry, you will not need a lotion or body cream after bathing with this.
I purchase all of my LUSH products from either the store or directly from their website.
Other Body Products Worth Bathing With…
Gratiae Exfoliating Body Scrub
I have raved about this product multiples time prior. I tried to refrain from including it within this list, for I try to avoid too much redundancy. However, excluding it would have been a borderline atrocity. This is one of my favorite body products of all time, period. It will provide you with the softest skin you could have ever imagined having in your wildest of vanity-related dreams. Refer to this article for my full review.
Vi-tae Detox, Cleanse & Heal Aromatherapy Dead Sea Salt Soak “Chill Out! Bliss Out!”
This is a fantastic remedy for stressful days and sleepless nights. When I was a makeup artist, I would return home after long events and have an overload of tension stored in my shoulders and back. The blend of essential oils, along with the magnesium mineral content within the blend, this soak created the perfect balance to help pull the tension and anxiety from my body. Purchase here.
Vi-tae Detox, Cleanse & Heal Aromatherapy Dead Sea Salt Soak “Re-boot & Re-start”
I am not certain how the blend of scents within this concoction transports me to a another (and more lovely) place emotionally, but it does every time. I’ve purchased countless dead sea salt blends, ranging from the clearance section of TJ Maxx, to my trusted Whole Foods, and expensive spas. I’ve never found a blend I enjoy more than this one. It does something special for me, though I can’t quite pinpoint exactly what that “something” is. I simply feel more emotionally-recharged and energized in a calming way. It generates somewhat of a peaceful type of energy. It’s almost as though the salts act like a vacuum, sucking away all of the residual negative and life-draining emotions from beneath the surface. That may sound a bit dramatic and extreme, but it has been my experience with them. As with all Vi-tae salt blends, they make the water feel especially soft and nourishing as well. SheaTerra Organics 100% Pure Marula Oil
I enjoy applying this oil to my entire body immediately after dry brushing and sunbathing. I warn you; it is addictive. I dabble with the use of a small variety of oils, as many of my faithful readers are already aware. This particular oil is a newer discovery of mine, and I’ve just purchased my second bottle. It feels as though I am feeding and nurturing my skin with every use, and the aftermath of it never leads to an excessively greasy or sticky feeling. It absorbs exactly the way I have always hoped other oils would absorb, while also providing my skin with an especially soft, radiant and glowing effect.
