I am not a medical professional, nutritionist or health coach, but merely a writer with a passion for wellness and sharing products that work. My purpose for this article is simply to share information which has personally impressed me and improved my health. All of the recommendations I am offering to you are ones I took from reliable sources, and then applied to my own life. However, I encourage you to do your own research. My only goal is to benefit my readers by sharing products and methods which have helped me. Some of you may disagree, however I am not interested in a debate, nor am I attempting to convince anyone to subscribe to a particular lifestyle. If you have serious medical issues, please consult a trusted doctor before trying any of the recommendations below.
The majority of women I know are on a perpetual quest for beauty. And, if I could make a blanket statement to all of them, it would be this: Stop spending an exorbitant amount of money on expensive and well-marketed yet often ineffective creams, gadgets and potions!
I could pull my hair out over the money wasted on such fruitless ventures.
Just because a concoction costs 200 dollars and smells like your grandma’s rose garden does not mean it will bring about the results you desire. The best method for revamping your appearance is to make a decision, once and for all, to improve the way you eat, drink, move, think and sleep.
I once traveled as a makeup artist. During this time, nothing irritated me more than listening as women poked fun at their unhealthy lifestyles while requesting that I make them look as young and beautiful as possible. A makeup brush is not a magic wand, however you would be amazed at what incorporating certain foods and habits into your life will do for your appearance.
I often hear people complain about the cost of organic and high-quality foods, however, oftentimes, those same individuals are spending copious amounts of money on salon appointments, spa treatments and overpriced products every month as though such expenses are as essential as their mortgage or rent payments. Think about it!
Being reckless with your body only to, in turn, spend money to cover up the damage is no different than dousing a turd with perfume. Stop attempting to mask the stench of thy turd!
Understand and acknowledge that your body must be nurtured. Your cells must be fed. You become what you think and what you eat. What you feed your cells will eventually be revealed in your appearance. Guaranteed.
Below is a list of some of my favorite foods and supplements, each of which offer a substantial benefit to my appearance and health.
Balance Your Silly Hormones To Maintain Your Youth & Beauty
Maintaining hormonal balance is essential to maintaining a healthy weight, keeping your skin clear, bright and hydrated, avoiding excessive bloating during your period and maintaining a positive outlook. Your hormones even affect your body fat distribution. When your hormones are out of balance, you may also experience severe mood disturbances.
Have you ever been prescribed a birth control pill which caused your skin to erupt with acne, copious amount of your hair to shed in the shower, a noticeable level of instant bloating and weight gain or, worst of all, provoked you to grow horns and spit fire like a dragon – for seemingly no reason at all? Your hormonal health affects the quality of not only your appearance, but your life.
Let’s get it right…
As I’ve expressed in a previous article, I wish I could write a love letter to the maca plant. It is one of the most important supplements I consume on a regular basis. A powerful adaptogen, it does wonders for my mood, energy level and stamina. It is difficult to explain why, but maca makes me feel more powerful, feminine and alive.
If I were Popeye, maca would be my spinach. The lovely plant assists in keeping my periods as predictable and manageable as possible. When I add maca to my smoothies regularly, I simply look and feel better overall.
Note: I strongly prefer gelatinized royal maca to the raw powder, however I encourage you to do your own research.
These delicious berries are loaded with antioxidants. I’m most charmed, however, by their ability to increase the production of human growth hormone (HGH). HGH is essential to staying young and vibrant for as long as possible.
Goji berries somewhat taste like an herbal strawberry tea, and they are appetizing to munch on alone or as an inclusion to a warm bowl of oatmeal, smoothie or trail mix.
Dragon herbs brand is by far my favorite source for goji berries. Their goji berries taste fresher and overall better than their competitors.
Evening Primrose Oil
This lovely oil keeps my skin glowing and clear, eradicates bloating and dramatically reduces menstrual cramps. My periods are night-and-day more tolerable than they were prior to faithfully taking this supplement. Evening Primrose Oil is an adequate source of GLA, which is believed to assist in metabolic functions, therefore it may help control your weight.
Note: I suggest you experiment to determine the appropriate dosage for you. Perhaps you could begin by starting with a low dosage of 500 mg or less. I have found 1,300 mg to be the ideal dosage for my body, however every individual is unique. Many women, particularly those with conditions such as PCOS, require much higher dosages in the realm of 3,000 mg. Please consult a doctor before attempting to treat a serious hormonal imbalance.
Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is my most treasured beauty potion. I consider it to be a fountain of wellness in a jar, however I use it for an abundance of vanity-related experiments and tasks as well. I shave with it, rely on it to remove every trace of makeup effortlessly, use it as a pre-shampoo hair treatment, use it as the base for DIY creams and scrubs, and the list continues. I also use it for the practice of “oil pulling,” which I will discuss in an upcoming article.
Nothing, however, is more important than the benefits I receive from consuming it. I bake with it, spread it on toast and muffins, and add it to smoothies and oatmeal. Thankfully, it tastes delicious. It provides an energizing, therapeutic effect I can absolutely feel inside of my body.
I use the Garden of Life brand. I appreciate that their coconut oil is sold in a glass jar and never becomes gritty.
Get The Junk Out
Inner Eco Coconut Probiotic Kefir
One of the first benefits I noticed when I first began consuming this product was a reduction is digestive discomfort following meals. Within a week, I noticed a dramatic reduction in under-eye dark circles. I assure you, you can never eradicate those unsightly dark circles with a simple cream applied externally. The external evidence of them is caused by an internal problem.
A combination of the use of this product, along with being conscious to eliminate foods which disrupt my body’s digestion process, has helped almost entirely eradicate the presence of dark circles under my eyes. Additionally, my face appears less puffy when I am faithful with consuming it.
Remember: Everything you see on the outside is a result of what is occurring on the inside. When you improve your gut health, the benefits become evident by the appearance of your skin, face and body. I consider this product one of the most important for not only my health, but for my appearance as well.
MSM is one of my favorite beauty products of all time, and I have used it off and on for the past five or six years. Essentially, MSM is sulphur. It is safe to ingest because it flushes from your body within 24 hours. Also, sulphur is a nutrient your body needs. This product is a powerful anti-inflammatory, therefore most people use this supplement for joint health and pain relief.
I, like many other women, discovered this jewel on internet forums. I stumbled upon it at a time when I had abused my body by switching to and from multiple different types of birth control pills within a short time span. My hormones were slightly, for lack of a more appropriate term, “whacked out.”
A certain birth control pill I had been taking had begun causing my hair to shed more than normal, and I was growing increasingly panicked because of it. My hair had always been my crowning glory, and I spent months scouring the internet for a remedy.
Within a month of taking MSM daily, the hair shedding slowed dramatically and I was surprised by skin benefits as well. Within a period of six months, my hair’s fullness was entirely restored.
The more consistent I am with taking MSM, the softer my skin feels and the more hair is present on my head. After years of experimenting with this, I am certain this is no placebo effect.
This supplement truly makes a difference in my appearance. I have found my body requires a dosage of at least 3,000 mg per day benefits to be noticeable. A simple pill containing 1,000 mg reaps no reward for me. I’m not a fan of ingesting multiple pills, therefore I generally purchase the powder and add it to juice. MSM has a very salty taste, however orange juice masks the saltiness quite well.
While conducting my internet research for MSM, I have read countless stories online of individuals claiming to have successfully faded scars, stretch marks and acne marks with MSM. There are a vast number of success stories on forums all across the internet, and I encourage you to conduct your own research.
Note: OptiMSM is the most bioavailable form of MSM, so be sure to find a product with this form. Taking it with Vitamin C is said to improve the absorption of MSM, therefore I try to do that as well. I highly recommend this brand, for it is pure and dissolves better than any other I have tried.
Feed Thy Cells For A Radiant Glow & Vibrant Health
Fresh Green Juice
Nothing provides my skin with a noticeable radiant glow the way fresh green juice does. My favorite variety is stinging nettles, with dandelion greens being a close second. The results are evident on my face within 24 hours. There has never been a serum, mask, peel or foundation of any kind which has provided my skin with the same level of glow I receive from consuming the fresh juice of stinging nettles.
Wild Sockeye Salmon
I rely on the regular consumption of wild sockeye salmon to keep my skin looking as youthful, glowing, firm and dewy as possible. Wild salmon, unlike farm-raised salmon, is a rich source of astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is a powerful beauty nutrient that should not be discounted or underestimated. I plan to discuss my experience with and fondness for astaxanthin in an upcoming article.
Additionally, wild salmon is an excellent source of omega fatty acids, thereby offering anti-inflammatory, among a host of other, benefits. In my experience, consumption of the fish simply improves the overall density and texture of my skin. In general, the more often I consume it, the better I look.
