Ah, summertime. I love the feel of sun on my skin and bare feet on the grass. I love freckled noses, tan lines and road trips with the windows rolled down. I love the breeze in my hair and the freedom in my soul. Sadly, despite its splendid offerings, summer often provokes feelings of anxiety for many. If you have skin or body issues you are disheartened by, do not fret!
There are confident bare-skinned days in your future, I assure you.
Skin Concern: My Skin Needs A Freaking Magic Wand From Head To Toe!
Gratiae Organic Beauty By Nature Exfoliating Body Scrub (Apple, Green Tea & Ginger)
One of my friends purchased this on a whim last year while browsing through the mall. She was lured in by one of those strategically-planted, super attractive booth boys who flash their million dollar smiles and shout compliments to all of the women who pass by. She called me, expressing her immediate buyer’s remorse as she departed the mall. While hanging out at her apartment shortly thereafter, she said to me, “Hey, do you remember that stuff I bought at the mall that night? I regretted it then, but now I’m so glad I bought it. Here, try it…”
I tried it and to say I was stunned would be the understatement of the year. I was so astounded, I was nearly sweating. It can be used all over the entire body, excluding the delicate skin of the face, Every inch of you will become so unbelievably smooth you will not be able to resist petting yourself.
Makeup Artist’s Choice (MUAC) Micro Polish Cream
MUAC makes superior products, and I admire their integrity as well as their commitment to remaining cruelty-free. I have yet to be disappointed in quality, performance or price.
I love the feeling and appearance of smooth skin, yet seldom like most facial scrubs because the granules are often too large or too rough. I have long preferred microdermabrasian scrubs made of aluminum oxide crystals to traditional scrubs. I have experimented with homemade sugar scrub recipes, and while I enjoy having control over the scent, I never like them quite as much. I have tried several other micro-dermabrasian scrubs, but this is truly exceptional.
This product is gentle, yet removes any flakiness with ease. It truly polishes any roughness away, and my makeup always applies perfectly the following day. If you have texture issues, I highly recommend giving this a try.
Skin Concern: I Have Ugly Breakouts On My Arms & Back!
Calm down; I’ve got your back (literally). Usually, breakouts on the shoulders and back are attributed to hormonal acne issues, whereas bumps on the arm are caused by a condition known as Keratosis Pilaris. I have experienced both, and therefore am able to discuss both. Even though each are skin conditions with entirely different culprits, one product alone eradicated both issues for me:
MUAC Exfoliating Body Wash with 8% Glycolic Acid
This product cleared my skin from head to toe, however you must avoid prolonged sun exposure when using it regularly. You may still allow yourself a moderate amount of sun exposure, but please do not overdo it. The glycolic and lactic acids in the product make your skin more vulnerable in the sun.
In the beginning of use, you will need to be quite proactive in terms of achieving results. Therefore, I recommend using it every other day. Allow the product to “rest” on your damp skin for a full minute. However, once you are clear, dwindle down to using it only a few times per week. I now use it only once or twice per week, yet my skin remains clear.
Note: If you condition your hair in the shower, make sure none of the hair conditioner touches your back, arms and shoulders. If it does, cleanse the area thoroughly before finishing your shower.
Skin Concern: I Can’t Find A Razor That Doesn’t Suck!
Gillette Fusion for Men (It Works For Women, Too!)
This is, by far, the best razor I have ever used. I am the typical female who gravitates toward aesthetically-pleasing packaging. I am a sucker for every shade of pink and every variety of sparkle. However, with this magical device, I am undeterred by its masculine appearance.
Prior to using this razor, I had experimented with every girlie razor available. I am by no means a hairy person, but the body hair I do have grows at a lightening speed . Within 24 hours of shaving, I had an annoyingly itchy, prickly layer atop my legs. Summer time has always carried a dread factor because of it. Now my legs remain smooth for twice as long.
Prior to using this razor, I had to constantly change out my razor blade, and I also had to prep the skin with moisturizing soaps or oils for a full minute prior to shaving. This magnificent device has never given me razor bumps, and when in a hurry, I am even able to glide it across dry skin without the use of any product. I typically use a small amount of coconut oil when shaving, however I am able to achieve a decent result simply using the razor alone.
If you loathe the act of shaving, do yourself a favor and try this razor!
Skin Concern: I Have Unsightly Cellulite!
It is important that you use a high-quality brush with bristles which will not scratch and irritate your skin. The best brush I’ve found is the Sublime Beauty Healthy Body Brush. It is sturdy, well-made, and its natural bristles are gentle yet perfect for dry brushing.

Skin Concern: I’m Pale & Every Self-Tanner Makes Me Look Diseased!
Caribbean Solutions Natural Self Tanner
This product is a hidden jewel. I love it because it smells like a tropical colada, but mostly because its ingredients are 100 percent non-toxic. The color is light-to-medium and a true golden beige, therefore you will need more than one coat if you desire to appear as though you have been vacationing in the Caribbean. There is zero orange factor. It is moisturizing, easy to apply and has never streaked on my skin. T
If you are fair, this will be a godsend to you. If your skin is medium-to-moderately tan, it is the perfect product for extending the life of an existing tan, or for giving the skin a nice light tan and healthy glow. There is no color guide or tint to it, so keep that in mind. Best of all, this self-tanner does not curse you with a repulsive stench (as so many others do).
Skin Concern: I Have A Sunburn, I’m Miserable & I Look Hideous…

Skin Concern: I’m In Search Of A Magic Potion Or Pill…
Astaxanthin: My Ultimate Summer Beauty Secret
I’ve been using this product during the summer months for several years now, however it is vastly becoming less of a secret. This supplement is one of the most transformative and effective products I have ever used, and is actually less of a supplement and more of a food.
Astaxanthin is responsible for the orange color of wild salmon and the pink color of flamingos. It is a super-charged antioxidant, and will provide you with brighter eyes, soft, glowing skin and the best sun protection possible. Several years ago, I relaxed under the Caribbean sun for hours with no chemical sunscreen. I burned minimally. Considering that my fair skin had no base tan at the time and was certainly not accustomed to being so close to the equator, the fact that I did not roast was quite remarkable. Within 48 hours, my slight burn turned to a lovely peachy brown. There was an undeniable correlation between my skin’s ability to handle the Caribbean sun and my faithful intake of astaxanthin during that time.
Last summer, however, I burned quite badly in just two hours under the Georgia sun because I had been negligent in my consumption of astaxanthin. I know first-hand the importance of this supplement, therefore will not expose my skin to the sun for a prolonged period of time without it.
I plan to write an in-depth article on my research and personal experiences with astaxanthin. Until then, I encourage you to do your own research. I take 8 mg per day, divided into two doses.
