**Update: Darling, this article is semi-ancient and will be updated soon. Feel free to read, but please check back again soon. In the meantime, refer to the main beauty section for newer (less antiquated) bits of brilliance.**
Fall is my most beloved season, and I hope you will join me in celebrating it. I enjoy every day of sweater weather, savor every steaming mug of hot chocolate, happily wipe the sweat from my forehead at every bonfire, relish every frightening second of scary movies and ghost stories, and adore playing dress-up on Halloween. Most of all, though, I love the coziness and feeling of serenity fall brings.
As your summer comes to a close and your days gets shorter, you put your bikinis away and pull your boots from hibernation, I would like to offer some suggestions for helping you have your prettiest, happiest and most festive fall ever.
Below is a list of some of my favorite beauty products to use during the fall season, as well as tips and advice I hope you will find helpful.
Fall Body Care
Lush Phoenix Rising Bath Bomb
Do you enjoy taking baths? If so, keep reading. I devote a monumental amount of time to bath-taking, as it is one of my favorite rituals. Unless you have been living under a rock, you are familiar with Lush products. Their bath bombs are truly in a league of their own. I have tried to appreciate less expensive alternatives and actually have, but none give me quite the pleasure the Lush bath bombs do.
This bath bomb in particular smells like spiced cinnamon apple cider! It is frothy, fluffy and gives the bath water a purple tint with hint of gold shimmer. Your entire bathroom will smell like fall.
SheaTerra Organics Gingered Pumpkin
Shea Butter Smooth-ee Body Butter
This body butter is fairly dense and most appropriate for drier skin types. I am including this within the list because I have had many friends and past clients complain of their skin experiencing increased dryness as soon as summer ends. I purchased this creme once and, while I still enjoyed how it felt and absorbed, it was somewhat too emollient for the normal-to-oily skin on my body.
Shea Butter & Malawi 2-in-1 Sugar Scrub
This scrub smells delicious and contains an oil base, making it quite creamy and moisturizing. It does a great job to prevent chapping and flaking of the skin. Oftentimes, this is all I need in terms of moisture, for it leaves my skin extremely soft for hours following a shower.
Fall Facial Care Staples
Mychelle Pumpkin Renew Cream
This is an excellent facial moisturizer for normal/combination to slightly dry skin any time of year. I chose to list this product because it is what I use during the fall and winter months. My skin is quite oily in the summer, but becomes normal-to-oily when the temperature turns cooler. It is free of harsh chemicals and smells delicious.
This product is vegan and cruelty-free.
MSM Cream Moisturizer
This is a fantastic moisturizer for anyone with dry, flaking skin. It is also fantastic as a lightweight balm for remedying even severely chapped lips. I once used this cream to soothe a sunburnt face, and it worked better than aloe vera or oil. It is quite reparative and healing, and many people with eczema consider it to be a miracle product.
If you are unfamiliar with MSM, I suggest you conduct some research. I plan to write an article about my knowledge of and experiences with MSM soon.
This product is free of parabens. I can guarantee it will work better for you than your much more expensive moisturizers, which are often comprised of mostly mineral oil and silicones.
Additional Tips to Ensure Having Your Prettiest Fall Ever:
Eat Pumpkin Seeds!
If you are familiar with this site, you know I preach the importance of eating with the season. I briefly discuss why it is important in this article. Add pumpkin seeds to your oatmeal, smoothie bowls, trail mixes… whatever! The high zinc content in pumpkin seeds assists in collagen production and maintenance, the prevention and management of acne, assistance in wound healing as well as scar prevention. These seeds are often saturated in pesticides when purchased conventionally, so buy organic.
Put Some Ginger in it!
Ginger root greatly reduces inflammation in the body which, by default, will provide you with a boost in beauty benefits very quickly. Inflammation in the body can reduce collagen production, cause your jawline to be puffy and less defined as well as cause redness and irritation in your skin’s appearance. Acne is an inflammatory condition, so ginger may assist you in your fight with that as well.
Slow the Pace and Recharge
If your summer was anything like mine, it was eventful and full of fun. Fall offers many opportunities for fun also, however I believe it is a great time to recharge and slow the pace down somewhat. Many people travel a great deal during the summer, therefore I feel fall is the perfect time to recuperate, get cozy and curl up in your comfiest place.
Perhaps you are in the beginning of a new school year or simply reflecting on the memories you made while taking some time off of work during the summer. Regardless of where you are in your life, I challenge you to allow yourself to unwind and embrace the serenity and beauty of fall. Do something different with your hair. Take a warm and fluffy bubble bath. Burn some candles and incense. Clean out your purse. Read a book. Admire the colors.
As the leaves change, so can you.
