A couple of years ago, a friend of mine was struggling with some mysterious health issues. I recall her curling over the toilet one frightful Saturday and telling me, in between sobs, “My body hates me, I swear.”
If you’ve ever felt this way, allow me to be a gentle reminder that this is not the case. Your body is simply trying to tell you something: to stop interfering.

7 Doable Tips For Holistic Healing and Total Body Reform
#1 Activate Your Pleasure Principle
Many of us have forgotten how to truly enjoy ourselves. We often count down the minutes until our workout is done, engaging in the movements solely because we desire our bodies to look differently. We sweat and swear our way through the reps, relying on discipline and momentum. But, exercise shouldn’t have to be punishment.
What about actually enjoying being engaged in the movements and the activity itself?
When children are active, they are playing. They are swinging from the monkey bars and chasing one another while squealing with unabashed excitement and joy. Why is it that we become adults and forget how to play?
Even our indulgences have become less pleasurable. I’ve witnessed friends devour a glass of wine or a cup of coffee hastily just so they can order another. We rush through our meals and our conversations. We live for the weekends or for our next vacation. It’s as though we are always rushing to the next step.
But, this robs us of pleasure – pleasure that wishes to heal us.
So, sip slowly. Taste the fruit. Smell the pie baking. Dance wildly. Feel the sun on your face. Allow yourself to play.
#2 Do Something Kind For Your Body At Least Once Per Day, But Don’t Swing To And From Extremes
How about a random act of kindness for your own body? Make an effort to do something kind for your body as often as possible, and at least once per day. Perhaps that means sipping on a cup of detoxifying tea while answering emails. It could mean half of the cigarettes you normally smoke. Or, perhaps it’s replacing your typical breakfast of a sugary, chemical-laden latte and an over-processed banana nut muffin for a handful of goji berries and a green smoothie.
Ask yourself, how can my next decision be kinder to my body, and more supportive of my goals?
I feel as though we swing from a pendulum of extremes, especially when it comes to our health. Many of us are gorging ourselves on pizza and Cheetos one day, then exclusively juicing kale and lemons the next. Why must it be so “all or nothing”? Starting small and avoiding overwhelming yourself is oftentimes the best route toward better health and a better life.
#3 Get Aligned & Redesigned
I was shopping at the drugstore the other day when I saw a lady whose body was contorted into the most unfortunate shape, for she was trying to manage her shopping cart, a handbag twice the size of her head, as well as her apparently frustrating phone conversation.
She looked so bizarre, I was in pain for her. I thought, no wonder we are a physically “jacked-up” society, more dependent upon surgeries and modern medicine interventions than ever before. It’s no wonder even children are experiencing back and neck problems.
When your body is misaligned, it creates a host of problems both internally and externally. The obvious issue is muscular imbalance which then leads to injuries and discomfort, however it also inhibits organ function. For example, consider lung function in a body which is constantly curling into itself. Consider all of the ways a misaligned pelvis could affect the digestive and reproductive systems.
Finally, it is important to note than an aligned body is the most physically attractive body. For example, one can squat over and over again daily for a year, but if they have an extreme posterior pelvic tilt and are likely performing the movements improperly, they will never create the appearance of actually having any substantial jewels in their trunk. Restore proper position of the pelvis, which will then allow them to properly activate their glutes. Otherwise, the individual will be stuck with a “sleeping booty.”

Purchase this book by guru Ashley Black if you have stubborn problem areas, chronic pain and are plagued with cellulite. It offers an invaluable anatomy lesson.
#4 Disconnect To Reconnect
Turn off your phone and silence your mind for at least five minutes a day. For a period of a full five minutes, allow yourself to be an receptor of information as opposed to being an analyzer, obsessor and processor of information. Disconnect from the world as well as from the echoes of your brain chatter. Be still and receive, free of judgment of yourself or anyone else. A calm mind is a happy mind. A happy mind creates a happy body.
#5 Hesitate Before You Medicate
None of us are deficient in ibuprofen. We don’t ingest ibuprofen because our body is in need of it, but because we have an issue within our body which is producing a symptom ibuprofen temporarily pacifies. Hesitate before putting a band-aid on it; before having a knee-jerk reaction to medicate every time your head aches. Peel back the layers of bandaging and nurture the imbalance. Discover the root, and feed the soil.
#6 Hypercriticism Will Only Keep You Stuck, So Stop Hexing Yourself!
Stop talking sh*t about the body you should be in awe of! Just stop. The fact that your brain communicates to your organs to function as they do is miraculous. Your existence alone is a miracle, so stop dissecting your every flaw. Nagging and hypercriticism will only solidify your state of discontentment. It will certainly never create for you a happier body.
#7 Visualize Your Body Anew
You may be skeptical of this, but if you dare to try it and practice it consistently, it can change not only your body but your entire life. Holistic healing begins with where you allow your mind to wander. If you have a health issue or other body-related issue you are unhappy with, stop focusing on that which you dislike.
Begin visualizing yourself free of the problem or ailment. Begin to visualize yourself at the weight you desire, with a level of energy you desire and bursting with confidence.
See yourself wearing the style of clothes you would wear if you were at your ideal weight or with your ideal body composition. Imagine all of the activities you would participate in. Allow the emotions to come with those visualizations, just as they do in real life. There are countless people who have cured themselves of diseases and achieved goals many would have once thought impossible, just by applying this practice to their lives.
Replaying in your mind the things which make you unhappy about your body is only going to secure it into its current state of that which you dislike. Visualize your new body into existence. Your brain is a powerfully creative tool.
You have nothing to lose but a problem!
If you are new to visualization, I highly recommend this inexpensive yet helpful product.
Finally, I highly recommend reading Within by Dr. Habib Sadeghi. Whether you desire to lose 50 pounds or have no actual weight to lose (but desire to improve one or more aspects of your body, health or overall life) it will permanently alter the way you see and treat yourself. I read this book merely for the purpose of conducting research about the power of beliefs. It knocked my blinders off, then leading me through a new doorway of self-awareness and self-care.
